Waterton National Park
Waterton National Park has been a destination for my family since I moved to Alberta in the late 1980’s.
Initially, it was a windsurfing destination for my wife and I.
Then, in 2020, during Covid, my son Connor and I discovered it as a birding destination. Its southern location on the eastern front of the Rockies means that it is a good place to see many species not found elsewhere in the province. On our first trip, we saw 6 lifers : Lazuli Bunting, Cassin’s Finch. Cassin’s Vireo, Western Flycatcher, Black-headed Grosbeak and Caliope Humming Bird. A recent fire in the area resulted in large areas of accessible burnt forest which makes interesting habitat for photographs.
